The Job Times in Life

So what do you do when you are facing a Job moment in life? My family is currently going through a moment like this. Financial strain has lasted for my parents for years. Now one of them has decided that they need to move out.

I am not naive enough to assume that there is only fault on one person’s side. No matter what each says they are both equally responsible for the relational difficulties that they have together, just as my wife and I share parts in every fight we have.

So I am in need of some encouragement. What do you do when the life you have had crumbles around you?

  1. my wife and I are still recovering from having lost everything, so send me an email anytime and we can talk man

  2. Turn up the rock and roll and take a very long drive at night talking to God the entire time. Driving or taking walks or just talking it out seem to work well, other than that…I will pray for you.

  3. I pray, as I weep, I pray…out loud…VERY loud…in my head…whispering to myself…falling asleep…I pray.

  4. My prayer at times like that is for God to receive glory through it, to keep His promise to work all things together for the good of those who love Him, and to teach me whatever lesson I am to learn from it.

My sister died last Wednesday after a four-year struggle with cancer. She died knowing the Lord and free of pain. I miss her terribly, but God has already received glory. Three people put their faith in Christ on the day of her funeral.

  5. Sadly, this is the nature of people. We’re small, squabbly, messy creatures, and it never ceases to amaze me that there’s room in the plan for each of us. That we’re even loved. Either God is a fool, or He knows something about the value of people that we don’t.

  6. It’s been awhile since you’ve posted anything… I’m wondering if you’re OK?

I cry my eyes out and tell God how much I hate myself and then I eat chocolate, drink beer, and call someone I know for sure loves me, even with snot running down my face. That’s what I do. And I do it as often as I need to until the sun starts to shine again.

Sometimes that takes a long time.
